Shape and construction of the vessel form are explored allowing for elements to be exaggerated or understated, such as handles and spouts.
Pieces are hand-built using predominantly a white earthenware clay body and layers of pattern and decoration are built up through the use of a number of techniques and multiple firings.
Space and distance is important – a place of visual rest against the intensity of the patterned, coloured and textured surfaces. Drawing is also integral to the development and exploration of form. Such drawings are informed by boats, housing, maps, dressmaking text and patterns, assemblage, birds and their sense of rhythm and movement; and more recently the landscape and ever changing colours and cloud textures.
The works portray a sense of movement through providing a rich aesthetic and an invitation to explore. They have a relationship to space: where the eye can travel in, around, above, behind and beyond.....
