"I have been influenced by Ikebana, the Arts of Japanese Flower Arranging, which I have studied for several years. Together with this and the influence of other Japanese Art, I have explored the use of asymmetrical forms using the natural colour of stoneware and porcelain clay, enhanced by stained inlay decoration.
Parallel to the development of larger sculptural forms and in contrast, I have used porcelain, producing a limited range of vases in various shades, individually inlayed with linear designs. The shapes are developed to compliment one another, yet are sculptural pieces in their own right, embodying purity of line and elegant simplicity".
Birmingham based ceramicist Sue Dyer creates finely decorated small pieces as well as the large-scale works in this show. She is inspired by the landscape and has a strong affinity with standing stones. The individual pieces have a great feeling of timelessness and purity of sculptural form. The use of porcelain coloured slips before firing at 1260°C creates great subtleties of both texture and colour
Sue is member of the Worcestershire Guild of Designer Craftsmen
