Inspired by the mountaineous landscape of her home country Austria and constructed from soft slabs of clay, Regina Heinz’s pieces display an organic and sensual quality. Reminiscent both of the intimacy of a body and the flowing lines of a landscape, her work, equally, can be seen as purly abstract - dealing with form, volume, line and colour. Precisely constructed forms echo geometric designs, which are painted on in vibrant colours and contrast with the soft clay surfaces.
“It is this tension between hard and soft, the architectural and the organic, the abstract and the natural, which animates my work”, Heinz comments.
Hand built sculptural ceramic, using soft slab construction, encompassing freestanding upright pieces, pillow forms and wall mounted panels.
Bold colours and geometrical patterns are applied in thin layers over a base of neutral greys and whites to emphasise the underlying form and accent the softness of wet clay.
Born in 1957 in Austria, studied Art and Ceramics in Vienna, Geneva and London. Resident in the UK since 1989, Regina established her ceramics studio in 1996 in London.
