Duncan Ayscough is a Fellow of the CPA, a Professional Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and is on the Craft Council’s selected index of makers. He is Senior Lecturer in Ceramics at the University of Wales College, Cardiff.
Duncan Ayscough’s pots appear to embrace both ancient pottery forms and strong contemporary design. The elegant lines and the meticulous finish of his pots belie the rigours of long slow sawdust firing and the serendipity that comes with his chosen processes.
Hide information...
The mottled patina to the surface occurs through processes which involve firing the pots in sawdust over several days; through lengthy processes the pots acquire intensity and depth of surface.
Gold leaf is used as a final stage in order to heighten the visual impact of the interiors and act as a contrast to mottled reds, greys and black exterior surfaces.
All pots are wax polished to provide a tactile reward to the observer and gold leaf additions are made to create a sense of strength and resonance to the internal space.
