"I am trying to express that energy or feeling we experience when we have time to take in an image or view and then see it in our minds eye later on. Reflecting times I have spent domestically at home and away on travels, the smaller things in everyday life still move me as much as the big adventures we have away from it too. I want to keep the paintings light and fun but strong enough to speak for themselves inviting the viewer to relax into the picture and get lost in their own response or triggering memories or feelings from their own experience.
My work ranges from still lives to landscapes, all a riot of colour and energy. I use colour intuitively and am always drawn by clashing and strong colour combinations. I pick up colour everywhere and am continually inspired by the patterns and compositions all round me, collecting cuttings, fabrics, float some and jet some, anything that might help me capture these found colours or forms in the studio. I use mixed media, playing with the textures of chalk pastel, oil, oil pastel, acrylic paint, permanent markers and neon colours mixing them together to contrast each other across the board or canvas. I also like to work over paintings and leave some of the under painting exposed.
My strongest influences are Craigie Aitchison, Barbara Rae, Elaine Pamphilon, Patrick Heron and David Hockney for their hot and stunning colour combinations and beautiful compositions that delight me and keep me painting."
