Kenneth Spooner was born 1942 in Leek, Staffordshire. Although he started creating art from an early age he had no formal art education until he was in his late twenties, graduating from North Staffordshire University in 1973 with a BA Fine Art 1st Class (Hons.). Kenneth Spooner has had many solo exhibitions in galleries in the UK as well as in continental Europe and the USA and his work is in public and private collections worldwide.
Ken has boundless creative energy and he applies this well spring of inspiration to a wide range of media. He has an international reputation as an artist. His ceramics are an extension of his paintings in three dimensions and his furniture made from coloured driftwood thrown up on Cornish beaches is remarkable.
His ceramic works are strong pieces in every sense. They have a common language although each piece has a distinct voice. The combination of his paintings and ceramics is particular effective to the extent that all are clearly manifestations of the same creative spirit.
Ken is an adventurous artist whose assured technical skill in a range of media enables him to do whatever he turns his hand to. This small exhibition is typical of his current output and we are particularly pleased to be showing his work for the first time at Bevere Gallery.
