Rose has lived in Oxford for the past thirty years. She has been involved in ceramics since 1998 latterly studying at Buckinghamshire New University, graduating with a 1st class B.A.(hons) in 2008.
She was selected in 2011 as a professional member of the CPA.
We are delighted to be showing a range of her latest work for the first time. Her Flatback Figure Series recall traditional Staffordshire mantelpiece ornaments, however these unique ceramic figures are crafted from casts of contemporary consumer packaging and discarded domestic ephemera. Quietly narrative, they capture the minutiae of modern life. Definitely not 'old Staffordshire!'

This body of work looks to ceramic history’s rich past. Recalling the
Staffordshire flatbacks from the Eighteenth Century – a popular object
destined to sit on the mantelpiece shelf as a
representation of idyllic domestic life. My aim here is to reference
the past but also employ and juxtapose casts of recognizable
contemporary surface imagery such as consumer packaging and domestic
ephemera to create this visual language

By feeding off what appears to be a peculiarly British phenomenon: the
social issues relating to binge drinking, particularly those involving
young women a dialogue of associations emerged. This narrative has a
subversive-satirist edge playing on contemporary observations whilst
documenting our increasingly dependent relationship with this popular
drug.
“Ceramics has long associations of tackling unattractive social issues,
I wanted to continue this tradition but give it a contemporary edge
employing candid interpretations illustrated with explicit and sobering
imagery.”
