MATTHEW WATSON - Wolverhampton School of Art and Design
Matthew’s work is a response, through personal thoughts and memories, to contemporary culture and events which fascinate him. He sees his work as creating a vehicle to the past and is currently working on the historical and manufacturing background of Wedgwood - mostly looking at the factories and the screen-printed plates of Paolozzi.
He then uses old photos to create contemporary pieces, which act as time capsules to the past but with a contemporary twist. Recently he has been working with the idea of the everyday, most importantly the vessel which he treats as a blank canvas for his layers of glazes, slips and screen-printed images. He intends to display his work so that the environments around the pieces add to their feel and tactical qualities.
New work by Matthew Watson will be in the gallery and on the website shortly.
