Robin’s work is inspired by the River Severn which he explores from source to sea, creating images in watercolour, charcoal or mixed media and drifting between abstract or figurative approaches as the moment dictates.
He is completely self-taught having had no formal training. He is simply driven by a lifelong passion for Britain’s longest river which began during childhood in the city of Worcester.
His early work was influenced by numerous artists, both past and present, and his preference was to paint in a realistic albeit loose style. Nowadays he paints intuitively, from his gut, trusting in his instincts and a lifetime of experiences to create an individual account of his subject.
He became a full-time artist in 2002 after a 20 year career in the printing industry. Since then he has enjoyed continual commission work and been involved in numerous joint and solo exhibitions.
In 2009 he was elected a member of the Easel Club and the Birmingham Watercolour Society with whom he exhibits annually.
New work by Robin Holder will be in the gallery and on the website shortly.
