Cambridge based potter Matthew Blakely, graduated from Southampton University with a BSc in Psychology in 1984. BY 1993 he had acquired a Diploma in Ceramics (State Medal) Distinction from the National Art School East Sydney TAFE in Sydney, Australia.
Matthew then set up a pottery shop/workshop co-operative called Glazed Expressions in Clovelly, Sydney and in 1994 he briefly returned to England, where he originally come from, and worked for a potter in Devon for 3 months and helped to set up a pottery workshop at an Arts and Crafts Centre in Buckfastleigh, Devon. Between 1995 and 1996 he worked at the Ross St. potters studio, Glebe, Australia. In 1996 he moved from Sydney to the mid-north coast, where he built a workshop, adjoining gallery and an LPG gas kiln and a bourry box wood fired salt kiln.
