Josie read anthropology and following graduation in 1972 taught social studies for three years. However by 1979 she had completed ceramic training at Chesterfield College of Art and set up a workshop and retail outlet in Derbyshire.
Josie’s distinctive functional pots have been a feature of the British studio pottery scene for over thirty years. During that time she has exhibited widely in the UK and also in Spain, France, Denmark, Canada and the Netherlands. Her work demonstrates a commitment to the slipware tradition whilst progressively developing her approach to decoration.
She continues to experiment with combinations of paper resist, colour infill and slip trailing.
