Born in St Ives Cornwall John Leach was apprenticed to grandfather Bernard and father David Leach between 1957 and 1963. In 1964/5 the pottery at Muchelney in Somerset was established making oil-fired functional ware.
John has traveled widely in Europe and North America, lecturing and conducting pottery workshops.
His pots are hand-thrown using West Country clays and wood-fired at 1320deg.C. in a newly built three chambered climbing kiln designed by John in the Oriental tradition. is the result of the firing process.
"My guiding principle? I try to make honest pots and be inspired by potters historically. As potters, we are so fortunate to be able to take a raw material as humble as clay from the ground and fashion it into something beautiful".
New work by John Leach will be in the gallery and on the website shortly.
