Paul has specialised in painting watercolours for the last fifteen years and his inspiration is drawn from strong tones and contrast found within the landscape. An avid walker and mountaineer, he is constantly recording the effects of light and shade within his native British Isles.
His love of painting is generously shared in his highly successful watercolour painting courses, workshops and demonstrations throughout the UK.
Paul was elected as a companion of the International Guild of Artists in 1996 and as an Associate of the British Watercolour Society in 1998. He was made a Professional Associate of the Society for All Artists in 1997 and in 2002 was elected as President of the Halifax Art Society. In 2003 he was made an advisory panellist of the SAA. He has appeared on British National Television and he regularly features on Sky TV’s painting and drawing channel.
Paul frequently writes for Artists and Illustrators Magazine as well as Paint magazine (SAA) and he is the presenter of four teaching art films on the subject of watercolour painting. Some of his work is published in Watercolour layer-by-layer (Walter Foster Publishing Inc) and he is the author of Watercolour for starters (David and Charles) and 30-Minute Landscapes (Walter Foster Publishing Inc). Paul has two new books scheduled for release in 2009.
