Matthew’s initial ceramic training was acquired with Philip Wood in Frome, Somerset in the six years up to1999. He then went on to Bath Spa University where he obtained a First Class Honours Degree in 2002 and an MA from the RCA in London in 2004.
During this time, he won The Poole Pottery prize for Ceramic Shape awarded at New Designers 2002 and The Ceramic Review Prize awarded at Ceramic Art London 2006.
Since 2004, Matthew has been commissioned regularly by interior designers, arts consultants and private clients including hotels, offices and apartments. He worked with Habitat during 2008/9 2009 on new product designs.
Matthew has a strikingly original voice, which is expressed through great technical skill as well as consummate artistry. It is not surprising that he has exhibited across Europe as well as the UK.

CERAMIC CURATOR'S STATEMENT
"The ceramic works of Matthew Chambers are born from a love of geometric and constructivist art, architecture, and design.
Each piece is a constructed abstract exploration of shape combining traditional processes and contemporary form, designed to create a visual and tactile beauty and intrigue.
They are minimalist yet complex objects built from layering many sections within a single form.
He has most recently been shortlisted for the Westerwald Prize, Keramik Museum in Germany in 2009 as well receiving a Diploma at the 5th World Ceramic Biennale, Icheon, Korea. In 2006 he was awarded the Ceramic Review prize at Ceramic Art London.
In 2007, he became a Professional Member of Contemporary Applied Arts, London and in 2009 a Professional Member of the CPA.
He designed a water fountain for Habitat in 2009 and previously has undertaken commissions for Rocco Forte Hotel Villa Kennedy, Frankfurt; The Spirit of Adventure cruise ship and The Hyatt Andaz Hotel, London.
Matthew is one of those ceramicists who invariable provoke the response - How does he do that? Each of his remarkable pieces is a testament to his extraordinary skill in both the design and the making.
