Harriet graduated from Bristol University with a degree in Theology in 1981 and then had the good fortune to become an apprentice to Alan Caiger Smith at Aldermaston Pottery. Here she learnt to throw, to glaze and to decorate pots in the tin-glazed earthenware tradition. It was an invaluable training which enabled her to set up her own workshop near Newbury in 1987 where she continued to make tableware, vividly painted and fired in an electric kiln.

In 1994 she moved to America where she was a founder member of the Covered Bridge Artisans, a group of craftsmen in Western New Jersey who had regular exhibitions and studio tours. The opportunity to build a wood kiln here inspired her to experiment with stoneware and a variety of glazes, including salt.

Since returning to England in 2001 she has been working in Ewelme in Oxfordshire. She has now, finally, given up working with majolica and is working mostly in porcelain with carbon trap shino glazes. These are fired in a gas kiln but, this December,she is hoping to build a kiln that will take both gas and wood. Although she still works mostly on the wheel she also nowadays enjoys handbuilding which makes so many other forms possible.

She makes a full range of tableware as well as bottles, shots, fish, tiled tables,chessboards and birdbaths.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries in England, France and America.
