Yo was born in Tokyo and after a degree in English Language in Japan she came over to Britain and started a 3D design course at the Kent Institute of Art and Design.
She established her own studio in Deptford in 2004 producing hand thrown functional stoneware and porcelain with carbon-trapped Shino and Blue Celadon glazes.
Yo moved to Hackney in 2006, producing domestic ware in an electric kiln in her studio, and some one-off vessels in a wood-fire kiln in Surrey.
Rosanjin Kitaoji is one of her favourite potters of all time. She believes that his work is unique and fresh, but deeply rooted in Japanese tradition.
