CLAIRE MURRAY has worked with clay since her early twenties - as both a student and during her career as a teacher. She now devotes her time to the development of her own work and teaching in schools as a clay artist.
Some pieces are sited on burnt oak bases fixed into place with a metal rod and resin glue. Her work is constantly evolving.
Claire was selected to become a Professional Member of the Craft Potters' Association in 2002. She is also a member of West Country Potters and North Devon Arts.
"My figurative ceramics are at present based around an exploration of the complexities of human communication.
Speech does not always convey exactly what we might need or wish to say. Nor are our words always received in the way that we might want.
Communication may be achieved through other avenues such as the use of certain signs and symbols with which we might adorn our bodies. Some symbols could be considered as personal totems."
