Born in Liverpool, she came to Shropshire in 1985. She studied illustration at the Laird School of Art, Birkenhead and is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art and Jordanhill College of Education. She has worked as an illustrator with Associated Freelance Artists, London, and was an Art Teacher in Scotland and Cheshire. Now, Thelma is a full time painter and part time lecturer at Walford College.
A regular exhibitor throughout the UK, Thelma has paintings in the permanent collection of the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum(Merseyside Tate Gallery Group) where she was Purchase Prize Winner in 1988, 1998 & 2001, as well as in private collections in the UK, Canada, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
She has had work accepted by the Royal Academy, New English Art Club, Society of Women Artists (London and Scotland), Birmingham Society of Artists, Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Museum of Modern Art Wales, Bristol Academy, Bath Society of Artists, Gallery 41, Edinburgh, John Noot Gallery Broadway, Silk Top Hat Ludlow et al.
