A solo show by one of the singular voices of studio ceramics

Chris Carter's personal involvement with farming and the landscape give him a special empathy with his native Britain. He's a genuine "son of the soil" who has worked the land for a living and who still works with some of the substance of that "land" to make his vessels

Within the many layers of his unique glazes, that are first built up and then partially taken back with abrasion and multiple firings, there is contained a search for the essence of an ancient landscape and for the shadows of its creators.
These gleanings, so passionately sought, reveal themselves only gradually, like flint artefacts occasionally turned up by the plough

Sam Hall who lives and works in St Ives is a ceramicist whom we have wanted to show in the gallery for a long time. This will be entirely new work as he has not exhibited over the last year. Sam’s pots have great presence and we know that they will make a strong visual impact in the gallery and upon our visitors. Tim Andrews needs no introduction – his work has been in our gallery since the early days. He is at the top of his powers as one of the country’s leading raku potters. Some of his most recent work is stunningly original and we know that his selected group of pots for this show will not disappoint.
