Throughout July, the works of the renowned ceramicist Paul Jackson will be exhibited at The Gallery at Bevere near Worcester.
Following its reopening by critic David Whiting in May, the Gallery has already hosted exhibitions featuring top ceramicists Jane Hamlyn, John Pollex, Gilda Westermann, Michael Eden and Clive Bowen.
Gallery owner Kim Taylor said, "We have been delighted at the response and support from so many leading ceramicists to our new venture. July sees the gallery's first solo show. Paul Jackson, who is based in Cornwall, will be showing a wide range of his latest work. He has exhibited regularly and widely in both the UK and the US, and his work can be found in many major galleries. We're delighted that he has agreed to exhibit here - it really does put The Gallery at Bevere on the UK galleries map."
Paul's decorative technique was originally eclectic, drawing primarily on Italian and Russian influences. More recently Russian graphic styles and the work of the post-impressionist have played their part in evolving a series of distinctive original styles, as reflected in his Nude, Abstract and Wave series and the Barcelona group.
In addition to ceramics, The Gallery's refurbished and rebuilt space
continues to feature paintings and other works of art. Until July 29th, this will
include original watercolours by Worcester born Gary Walton and Birmingham based
Sue Howells
- the top selling female artist in print as reported by the Fine Art Trade
Guild; glass and etchings by Shropshire based
Frans Wesselman;
and works by internationally renowned wood turner
Mark Hancock,
who now lives in Pershore.

Worcestershire born artist Gary Walton lives in the county with his wife and daughter. A self-taught artist, he works in watercolour and pen using his vivid imagination to create a world of realistic fantasy. His latest distinctive watercolours in the sea series are a mixture of coastal scenes and buildings, painted in a stylised manner that is exquisitely observed. He also sculpts. Gary was a 2004 finalist in the DeMontfort New Artist competition, the UK's leading international publisher, which allowed him to fulfill his dream of becoming a full-time artist - a situation he describes as "highly privileged".
Long experience as a painter gave Shropshire based
Frans Wesselman's
stained glass its particular charm and interest. Frans says, "On a visit
to Salisbury Cathedral in 1999, I was particularly struck by 'The prisoners
of conscience' window, painted in the 1980s by Gabriel Loire. Not having
really ever paid much attention to stained glass before, I decided there and
then to study the technique and try to make some myself. One of the things
that excited me was the way one can tell stories in glass, where the ephemeral
quality of the material, part light, part substance, encourages the mind to
make leaps of time and imagination. I have made many pieces since and keep
discovering new challenges, new ways to do things."
All the painting, etching and silver staining are done by hand in limited editions of 75.
