Gallery owner Kim Taylor said, "We are delighted to welcome such talented new
ceramicists and some of our best local artists to The Gallery at Bevere. Visitors cannot fail

show."
Notes on the Artists
Harrow School of Ceramics and Art
Bill Kohler of Royston, Hertfordshire
"When you work with clay and make ceramic pieces, it becomes a passion and a part of life.
I wanted mine to reflect life and the world as we know it. I have accomplished this through
the making of curved forms based on aspects of the human body and the world around us.
These forms are coated with rich, textured, volcanic finishes which give depth of colour,
and convey a feeling of space."
Gunizi Amirak of Kenton, Harrow
"My current practices are based on thrown, functional slip wares such as cheese and
service platters, bowls, jugs and mugs. I aim to achieve simple, practical, thoughtful pots
which are comfortable in handling and tactile in nature to encourage everyday use. My love of
nature and its wonders may it be little seeds wondering in the wind, beautiful leaves of
ordinary trees, the moon, the clouds, the mountains, colours or indeed the majority of the
living creatures be them the humans, domestic pets or all the fascinating occupiers of the
nature are the main sources of my inspiration."
"My jugs have cutaway spouts to which I have always been attracted. Use of cutaway spouts
dates back to 2500 BC of Yortan culture in Anatolia. The features of these funeral jugs imitate
curves and designs found in nature. I find both the depiction of nature and the feelings of
sombreness very attractive. The cutaway spout looks simple and elegant without crowding the piece
with too much in detail but in fact is a complicated structure and requires a skilful mixture
of throwing and assembling."
"In addition other influences in my practice include my Islamic background and my
Turkish/Anatolian upbringing."
Jean Jenkins of Bridgnorth, Shropshire
After a successful career as an occupational therapist, Jean gained a first-class degree
in ceramics from Wolverhampton University. Using impressive technical ability, she makes large
stoneware hand-built vessels of a sculptural nature, creating great visual impact. Her work
received immediate recognition: 'The Potclays Award for Outstanding Work in Clay'.
Magdalena Gazur, 27, lives in Poland.
She first studied ceramics at the Wroclaw Academy of Fine Art in Poland before
coming to the University of Wolverhampton to extend her studies. She is proficient in throwing,
handbuilding, glaze technology, painting and drawing. Having now added graphic communications
and English to her skills, she says, "The inspiration for my works is embedded in my
home-landscape. Country traditional churches, a charming cottage enclosed by a fence,
obscured by fields and woods. I am looking for new means of expressing these emotions.
My aim is to portray my attachment, affectionate and passion for the place of my origin.
Furthermore, I have the constant will to convert all experiences to 3D. I am attempting to
find an interface between my paintings and ceramic's sculpture. I am seeking a compromise and
solution." Magdalena, who is also the lead singer in a band, hopes to open her own studio
one day.
Featured Painter
Kidderminster-born
Linda Judkins enjoys working in an experimental way,
adapting her style to suit each subject, whether it is a study of a delicate flower or a robust
landscape. For this exhibition, Linda's subject is the drama and mystery of the British
countryside. She has had a number of solo exhibitions in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire
with works depicting seasonal colour changes and momentary manifestations of light upon nature.
She continues this theme here with her landscapes and seascapes in oil and oil pastel.
