Clare Palmer

Clare Palmer is a ceramic artist making abstract, conceptual sculptures.

She came to clay relatively late in life: her first career being in advertising as a strategic planner in London advertising agencies.

Making the decision to finally pursue her true passion of ceramics, she graduated from the City Lit Ceramics Diploma in 2017.

Her work is rooted in the personal: exploring themes of emotional impact, from upheaval to trauma.

Clare craft’s one-off sculptures and vessels in a variety of stoneware and porcelain clays, using her two favored techniques: slab-building with organic-textured slabs; and throwing forms to cut, join and distort.

Oxides, engobes and glaze create subtle variations of colour and tone to reflect the narratives explored through the work.
