Emma Westmacott

Emma’s work is inspired by mid-century modern aesthetics and Scandinavian design.
Asymmetric form, colour and pattern develop through collage and drawing. The influence of vintage textiles, household objects and materials combine to help her create pieces that evolve through experimentation.
She is currently working in heavy brick clays and terracotta to create semi-functional sculptural vessels. She uses modular wooden moulds inspired by architectural concrete formwork surfaces reminiscent of the ‘béton brut’ concrete formwork surfaces seen in Brutalist architecture. This concept, along with the truth to form and materials in the buildings, are what influence Emma’s work. She is constantly exploring new ways of creating textural surfaces which, in her most recent work, combines with a simple vase form to emphasise the contrast.
