Helen’s garden sculpture is made from high fired stoneware clay and is frost resistant. Some of the Green man and serene wall pots are designed for use as containers with plants such as thyme and saxifrage, while others are better as plaques. The ideas come from many sources – local carvings, portraits or photographs and from her imagination.
The faces are individually hand-built and although designs may be repeated, each one is unique. Helen fire’s the work to 1280c in an electric kiln. Some faces are finished with iron oxide to enhance their features – with this and the coloured glazes they sit well in the garden.
