JIN EUI KIM

Jin Eui Kim is a ceramic artist originally from South Korea. He graduated from Cardiff School of Art and Design with an MA and PhD in Ceramics, during which he studied the illusory effects of the application of black through to white on three-dimensional surfaces.

He was selected for AWARD exhibition in the British Ceramics Biennial 2013 and HOT ROOKIES, special exhibition for the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in Korea. One of his works was purchased by National Museum Cardiff in 2012. He is a member of Contemporary Applied Art (CAA) since 2012 and has just become a professional member of Craft Potters Association (CPA).

Jin Eui explores in depth tonal effects and spatial illusions, creating works that are both visually and intellectually challenging. He makes both non-functional sculptural works of horizontal and vertical cylinder forms and functional ware and applies the principles of creating illusory spatial phenomena such as gradient in tone and size of bands. He also tries to understand more of the quality of clay and how it can be combined with subtle variations of tone to create these illusory spatial phenomena.
It is widely acknowledged that he has the highest level of making and decorative skills and it is known that only work of the highest quality will be shown in public.
