Stephanie Hopkins
Inspired by the natural environment, Stephanie Hopkins is fascinated by the forms, colours and textures that can be found in the ever-changing natural world. Eroded and decayed forms and surfaces influence her the most which she incorporates into her work using techniques including etching and patination.
She has a passion for using metal and manipulating the surface to create one of a kind pieces. Each copper vessel is cut by hand and then hand-raised which involves a series of heating the metal and then hammering to create the form. The vessel is then chemically patinated and sealed with wax to protect the patina. Using this process means each vessel is individual and completely unique.
In her current jewellery pieces, she has taken the processes she uses within her metal vessels to create pieces using copper and brass. Her aim is to create simple pieces that explore the surface of the metal on a much smaller scale but just as interesting.
