Susan is a professional artist creating vibrant artwork ranging from representational to more semi-abstract and conceptual pieces, mainly landscape and still life. She makes bold use of colour, pattern and texture and employs a variety of media including acrylic paint, ink and collage to create lively pieces that hold the gaze and attention, maybe striking a chord or evoking a thought, emotion or memory. She loves to experiment with techniques and mix up media to produce visually intriguing images. This variety is central to Susan’s practice draws the eye to explore her paintings. Subject matter varies considerably since she tends to follow her impulses when it comes to inspiration. A particular love is painting semi-abstract landscapes that may be inspired either by an attractive quality of real scenes encountered or by images that may appear from somewhere in her subconscious. She strives to incorporate a certain magical quality into all her artwork, using the term ‘dreamscapes’ for recent work.
Susan exhibits regularly and participates in local art events and projects. In 2022 she was commissioned by Severn Arts and Worcestershire County Council to design a banner celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and created a Worcestershire-themed mixed media painting as the prize for the overall winner of the Worcestershire Social Media Awards. She also collaborated with Worcester poets on a project for the 2022 NHS Trust Art Trail involving posters across the county on the themes of community, connection, supporting each other and working to prevent loneliness.
Further afield, Susan has had work accepted for annual exhibitions of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in Mall Galleries, London, the Broadway Arts Festival and curated exhibitions at Sixteen Gallery in Cheltenham. Susan exhibited at The Bath Art Fair in February 2023.
