Katherine lives in Birmingham and is a self-taught ceramicist. She began her love of clay when she facilitated pottery groups as an occupational therapist. Katherine developed her practice after leaving a twenty-year career in the NHS. She also holds a degree in English Literature, a background that continues to inform her sensitivity to narrative, rhythm, and balance within my work.
Katherine works primarily with stoneware, exploring form, surface, and material presence through hand-built vessels. Her practice balances a respect for traditional making processes with a contemporary approach to colour, mark-making, and surface design.
Katherine’s work is characterised by the use of mark making, texture and colour that bring energy and individuality to each piece. She embraces subtle variation and evidence of the hand, allowing the material and process to shape the final form. Her work is tactile and decorative, inviting interaction as well as contemplation.
