Nic Stace

Nic Stace is a ceramic artist from North Wales. Her ceramic sculptures explore the complex and often contradictory layers of human identity. Hand built using a range of clay bodies, from highly grogged stoneware to slip cast porcelain, each figure stands with a grounded, unapologetic stance. With interchangeable heads and no fixed front or back, they resist a single perspective, reflecting the adaptability and constant flux of the self.

Her approach to surface and mark making is intuitive and expressive, layering slips, oxides, and experimental glazes to create depth, character, and texture. Humour, nostalgia, and a growing confidence in aging underpin her exploration of human psychology and the metaphor of the masks we wear explored in the different heads her figures wear. Nic’s practice celebrates imperfection, resilience, and the ongoing process of becoming.
