Tricia Thom

Tricia creates wheel-thrown porcelain vessels that explore the interplay between function, form, and quiet reflection. Her practice is rooted in a love of Japanese aesthetics, with teapots and moon jars serving as enduring symbols of ritual and community.

Working predominantly in porcelain, Tricia’s pieces are thrown on the wheel. Some surfaces are punctuated rhythmically inside and out, expressing the fine translucency of the material, others are treated with bold, calligraphic brush strokes and stripes which contrast with the conformity of form.

She studied ceramics at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and later worked in a production pottery in the Highlands, where she developed her skills in both making and decorating. After training as a teacher, she taught art and ceramics in schools and colleges while continuing to produce her own work.
