MMXX are a series of Raku Totems which began as pieces for her final degree show at UCA Farnham 2020. She was inspired by her research, discovering inspirational raku artists such as Paul Soldner, David Roberts and Jane Perryman. She connected with their experimental approach and love of flames and smoke! She chose to use the naked raku process. In its final stages a layer of slip and glaze falls off the ceramic cylinders to reveal images that she hopes will make viewers curious. As a maker, she worked with ideas that really mattered to her as a mature woman, peeling away the superficial layers of life. This year has revealed that the world is more primitive and unknown than we had expected. Her Totems are designed to open conversation and reflection.
